Golden couple

Sugar and Ice of Shaw commenced work on a very special project back in November.  A great deal of preparation and work was involved, as this was basically a small Wedding Cake.  The wired flower arrangement was completed early November.  It took 5 days to prepare and 2 hours to wire together. The bottom tier was prepared early December - a freshly baked fruit cake containing glace cherries and walnuts; not to mention French Brandy! We iced the bottom tier well before Christmas, then boxed it and stored it at room temperature over the holidays.  Then on the 29th December, we baked a fresh sponge, iced it and created the top tier of the cake.  Finally, we added the ribbons, flower arrangement and a beautiful diamante "50" :0)

This cake was made for our Mum and Dad's Golden Wedding Anniversary on 30th December.  The bottom tier is a 12" fruit and the top tier a "6" sponge.  This cake would easily cater for 50.

It was very well received by the happy couple and all the guests at the party.

*OUR 1ST* Baby Shower Order

Two weeks ago, we received a telephone call from a lady who was arranging a Baby Shower.  We were VERY excited, we love requests for "out of the ordinary" occasions.

The order was to create an arrangement of cupcakes for the "Mum To Be" who knew she was expecting a baby girl at the end of December.

The cupcakes were baked fresh yesterday, decorated and delivered to the customer this morning.  When we opened the box, the customer said they were "amazing" and had NEVER seen anything like it!

The Baby Shower is this evening at 7pm and we hope that they have a lovely time :0)

Thank You Letter

There is nothing we like better than receiving customer's thank you cards and letters :0)

Children's Cupcake Party - Our 1st!

*NEW*

We were delighted and thrilled to host our very FIRST Cupcake Party today in High Crompton.

The Party was for Nicole and her 3 close friends; Courtney, Kate and Maisy "Moo Moo" :0)

The girls receive their undecorated cupcakes

On arrival, Sugar and Ice of Shaw cover the kitchen table with a plastic cupcake tablecloth, cupcake mats and hand out aprons.  We also produce name badges and ensure each girl has their hair tied back for hygiene reasons.  Finally, we dispense alcohol hand gel - then get started!

Firstly, we let the girls carefully buttercream their cupcakes ready to be flat-iced.

We show them how to prepare the sugarpaste icing and each girl takes a turn to roll out and cut the icing.

Next, we teach them to create buttercream swirls on their cakes.

Once the cupcakes have been covered, the real fun starts! The girls choose from an assortment of coloured sugarpaste to create hearts, stars, flowers, butterflies and teddy bears!

A great deal of concentration now, as the girls are left alone to be imaginative.

Finally, we bring out the sprinkles! Glitter, chocolate beans, silver balls, pink and white pearls... The girls are literally spoilt for choice!

Once completed, they put their cakes into a presentation box and smile for the camera.  After which, we present them with a special certificate and give the birthday girl a surprise gift.

We leave happy after clearing away and leaving the kitchen just as we originally found it.

End result? Four very happy young ladies with beautiful cupcakes and an experience that they will remember for many years to come :0)

MacMillan Cancer Support - Raffle Prize for St Joseph's School, Shaw

Sugar and Ice of Shaw were contacted by St Joseph's School in Shaw.  We were asked if we might consider making a cake to be donated for an upcoming event; World Coffee Morning ( in aid of MacMillan Cancer Support) on Friday 30th September.

We were very excited to be asked to be part of this event and such a worthwhile cause.

We designed, baked and decorated a traditional 12" sponge cake (using all fresh ingredients).  A "general" floral theme was chosen which we thought would be appreciated by ANY lucky winner.  Then, we delivered the cake to the school at 9.15am on a beautiful sunny autumn day.

The event was a huge success and lots of people attended.  Later that day, we received a phone call from the "winner" who was delighted with the cake.  We were thrilled to hear that a portion of the cake was being taken to a local nursing home.

We are confident that whoever sampled this cake would have enjoyed it :0)

My Little Helper

Sugar and Ice of Shaw had a special visitor yesterday.  Our son's friend, Holly (who is a huge fan of Sugar and Ice) made good use of some left over cake mix! We baked 6 fresh cupcakes for Holly (as a gift) and Holly chose the flavour and the designs for the toppings. We think she did exceptionally well and wonder whether she is looking to come and work for us in a few years!

Complimentary cupcakes donated to Dr Kershaws Hospice, Oldham

Sugar and Ice of Shaw baked and decorated cupcakes for the staff and patients of Dr Kershaws Hospice at the weekend.  This initiative was completely voluntary and complimentary.  As the weather was beautiful this weekend, a BEST OF BRITISH SUMMERTIME theme was chosen.  We think they look very "British" and give out a very positive flavour!
